UFC Could Land Usman Nurmagomedov in 2026 if Pay Condition Is Met

One of MMA’s top prospects outside the UFC could become a free agent by the end of next year.

Lightweight Division Set for Big Showdowns

The UFC will open 2026 with a major lightweight clash as Justin Gaethje faces Paddy Pimblett at UFC 324. The two fighters will compete for an interim title while champion Ilia Topuria remains sidelined. The Octagon will host this high-profile fight, but top-level lightweight action will also take place outside the UFC.

PFL lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov will make his first title defense after winning the inaugural championship in October. Following his second victory over Paul Hughes, Nurmagomedov will face Alfie Davis at a PFL event in Dubai on February 7. Analysts and fans have speculated how the Dagestani star would fare against UFC lightweights, and the promotion could soon aim to bring another Nurmagomedov to its roster.

    Usman Nurmagomedov’s Contract and Plans

Nurmagomedov has two fights remaining on his PFL contract. While Islam Makhachev held the UFC lightweight title, coach Javier Mendez and others highlighted Usman as a future champion. 2026 could open the door for UFC President Dana White to recruit Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Nurmagomedov said he expects contract talks to begin before his fight with Davis. “I know it’s going to be only two fights, beginning and end of the year. I have two more fights, and after Davis, we’ll discuss the future and see their interest. Everything in PFL is good. I’m champion, and there are many contenders who can grow here. PFL is good. You can make history. The question is what they will offer me. We’ll see.”

Nurmagomedov remains content in his current promotion but will rely on his management team for guidance.

UFC Must Match Salary to Make Move

Dominance MMA CEO Ali Abdelaziz stressed that any UFC move requires a critical condition: the promotion must match Nurmagomedov’s PFL salary. Abdelaziz said the fighter will not accept a pay cut, similar to Kayla Harrison when she switched promotions.

“He earns well in PFL, they treat him well, and he is financially secure,” Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie. “It’s a business. Once his contract ends, we will meet with the UFC. Everyone must be happy. The PFL must be satisfied, and he must be paid. He will not take a pay cut. Kayla didn’t either.”

If Nurmagomedov joins the UFC, Abdelaziz is confident in his success. “You’re going to see another Nurmagomedov become a champion,” he said.
