Shakur Stevenson added another major milestone to his career Saturday night, becoming a four-division world champion with a commanding victory over Teofimo Lopez Jr. at Madison Square Garden in New York.
A Confident Step Up in Weight
Moving up to junior welterweight for the first time, Stevenson looked completely at home against the naturally bigger Lopez. He controlled the fight from start to finish, earning a unanimous decision with all three judges scoring it 119-109. The win marked a successful debut at 140 pounds and further cemented Stevenson’s reputation as one of boxing’s most technically gifted fighters.
Another Title, Another Division
With the victory, Stevenson improved to 25-0 with 11 knockouts and captured a world title in a fourth weight class. He previously held championships at featherweight, junior lightweight and lightweight. The win followed his dominant performance against William Zepeda in July, showing his momentum hasn’t slowed as he continues to chase greatness across divisions.
Lopez Falls Short in Title Defense
Lopez entered the fight riding a six-fight winning streak after his 2021 upset loss to George Kambosos Jr. A former unified lightweight champion, he was making the fourth defense of the junior welterweight belt he won from Josh Taylor in June 2023. Despite an impressive résumé that includes victories over Vasiliy Lomachenko and Arnold Barboza Jr., Lopez was unable to match Stevenson’s precision and control on the night, dropping to 22-2 with 13 knockouts.
