A rivalry years in the making

Fans discussed a possible showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather for years.
The two legends crossed paths many times before they finally stepped into the ring together.
The long-awaited clash created a new storyline when Mayweather beat Pacquiao over twelve rounds.
The bout drew massive attention but also triggered sharp criticism because it failed to meet expectations.
Many made that disappointment clear to Mayweather after the final bell.

    McLaren confronted Mayweather directly

Talk of a potential rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao recently returned to the spotlight.
Fans question whether a second fight still appeals more than ten years later.
Their first meeting became known for long stretches without action and for taking place too late in their careers.
Combate Global CEO Campbell McLaren revealed in an interview that he confronted Mayweather soon after the bout.
The UFC co-creator addressed criticism about dull fights by pointing to Mayweather as an example.
He said Mayweather displayed great skill but did not always provide exciting performances.
McLaren said he approached Mayweather after the fight and asked for his money back because it was not the “Fight of the Century.”
Mayweather reacted angrily but stayed professional because he gets paid to strike opponents inside the ring.

Mayweather seems focused on other plans

Rumours of a new Mayweather–Pacquiao fight created questions about his other commitments.
Observers wondered what that would mean for the planned exhibition bout between Mayweather and Mike Tyson in 2026.
Tyson recently announced that his comeback will take place in Africa next March.
The former heavyweight star will fight for the first time since his defeat to Jake Paul in November 2024.
