Erickson Lubin travels to Fort Worth determined to prove himself against unbeaten star Vergil Ortiz in the biggest fight of his career. The junior middleweight contender knows a victory could redefine his legacy and position him among the world’s elite.
Ortiz remains undefeated in 23 fights, defeating Israil Madrimov and Serhii Bohachuk over 12 rounds after knocking out veterans Thomas Dulorme and Fredrick Lawson. Lubin, who beat Jesus Ramos in 2023 and stopped Ardreal Holmes in May, views this bout as a defining moment.
“This fight means everything,” Lubin said. “Ortiz gets all the backing from DAZN and Golden Boy, but I’m the more battle-tested fighter. I’ve faced tougher competition at 154 pounds and deserve that No. 1 spot.”
The DAZN main event at Dickies Arena marks a high-stakes showdown in Ortiz’s hometown. Lubin insists that defeating Ortiz will “catapult” his career back to the top of the division.
A Veteran Fighter Hungry for Respect
Lubin, now 27–2 with 19 knockouts, began his professional journey at 147 pounds before settling at junior middleweight. The Orlando southpaw has faced elite opponents, including Jermell Charlo, Sebastian Fundora, Jeison Rosario, and Ishe Smith.
“My résumé speaks for itself,” Lubin said. “This fight has huge stakes for both of us. Ortiz wants to face Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, but he’s never fought anyone like me. Madrimov and Bohachuk are solid, but they’re not at my level.”
He believes fans will witness one of the best matchups of the year. “The whole boxing world is in for a treat,” Lubin said. “We’re both coming to prove something. I know I’ll deliver when the bell rings.”
Focused on Upsetting the Odds
Lubin knows many expect an Ortiz–Ennis showdown next, but he refuses to be treated as a stepping stone. “I don’t care if they’re looking past me,” he said. “People make plans, but I’m the type to ruin them. On Saturday night, they’ll see the best version of me.”
Despite the intensity, Lubin says there’s mutual respect between him and Ortiz. “We don’t need trash talk,” he said. “We’re selling this fight by performing at a high level. Once that bell rings, it’s all business.”
Lubin warned that anyone underestimating him will regret it. “If they’re overlooking me, they’re in for a rude awakening,” he said. “I’m ready to win — and I plan to do it in spectacular fashion.”
