The UFC’s middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev targeted fellow titleholder Alex Pereira with a series of social media posts. Chimaev recently complained that “nobody wants to fight” when fans asked when he would return to the Octagon.
Chimaev had planned a quick return after winning the middleweight title in August, but an injury delayed his comeback. Observers questioned whether he would defend the belt actively, given his sporadic fight schedule in recent years. Despite not defending his title yet, Chimaev signaled he wants to move up a division rather than remain at 185 pounds.
Chimaev calls out Pereira and his team
Chimaev previously named Nassourdine Imavov as his next opponent for his first middleweight title defense. While several challengers at 185 pounds remain unbeaten, Chimaev seems uninterested in clearing the division before seeking other challenges. He hinted that he will have one more fight at middleweight before moving to light heavyweight.
In recent social media posts, Chimaev renewed his attacks on 205-pound champion Alex Pereira. He claimed a lack of mutual respect caused tension, writing on X, “Chama team talk too much, that’s why no respect anymore.” He also shared images of Pereira and coach Glover Teixeira, emphasizing the one thing that separates him from the Brazilian champion. “Borz 15 W. Chama 13 W, and 3 losses. Only this is the difference between us,” he explained.
Fans question Chimaev’s reign
Analyst Din Thomas sparked debate by saying Chimaev becoming a UFC champion could harm the sport. Chimaev’s slow activity frustrates fans, and his plan to move up a division after just one defense adds to the criticism. His dominant title win drew mixed reactions, leaving the undefeated champion’s reign under scrutiny. Chimaev can silence doubters with strong performances, but fans already feel the wait is too long.
