High-Profile Arrest in Miami Design District
Former three-weight boxing champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was taken into custody in Miami on Wednesday following an arrest warrant issued two weeks ago. The charges include battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping, according to Miami Gardens police. Authorities worked with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in a multi-county surveillance operation, ultimately locating Davis in the Miami Design District, where he was arrested without incident.
Jail records show Davis was booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 10 p.m., with bail set at $16,000.
Allegations Stem from October Strip Club Incident
The arrest relates to an alleged incident on October 27 at a Miami Gardens strip club. Police say Davis confronted his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, who worked there as a VIP cocktail server. According to the report, Davis allegedly took her into a back room, grabbed her by the hair and throat, and threatened her, saying, “You think I would not find you,” before escorting her to the parking lot and releasing her.
Rossel dated Davis briefly in 2025 and later filed both a police report and a civil lawsuit. Her attorney, Jeff Chukwuma, said the police investigation aligned with their civil complaint and was sufficient for a judge to issue the arrest warrant. Attempts to serve Davis with the civil complaint earlier in January were reportedly unsuccessful.
Legal History and Career Impact
At the time of the alleged incident, Davis had been training for a fight against Jake Paul, scheduled for October at the Kaseya Center in Miami. He was removed from the card and replaced by Anthony Joshua. Davis last competed in March, fighting Lamont Roach Jr. to a draw.
Davis has faced multiple legal issues, including domestic violence allegations and a 2023 hit-and-run case in Baltimore that resulted in probation and house arrest. It is currently unclear how his arrest in Florida may affect his probation status in Maryland.
