A career marked by dual titles

Daniel Cormier excelled in both light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. He claimed championship gold in each class. After knocking out Stipe Miocic in their first bout, Cormier confronted Brock Lesnar in a staredown that ended with a shove from “The Beast.” The moment fueled fan excitement, but the fight never happened before Cormier retired from professional MMA.

A lost opportunity for a massive payday

During an appearance on “Club Shay Shay,” Cormier reflected on missing a lucrative fight against Lesnar. He said WWE pulled Lesnar away before the matchup could happen. “The WWE got him. The WWE took him back,” Cormier explained. He called the potential bout his “golden goose” and recalled their tense encounter in the ring. WWE reportedly paid Lesnar $6 to $10 million a year, making the return far safer and more profitable for him.

How the fight might have unfolded

Cormier broke down Lesnar’s weaknesses and predicted how the fight would go. He said Lesnar would have needed to take him down to win, but Cormier trusted his wrestling skills. He compared Lesnar’s likely reactions to Cain Velasquez’s previous attacks, pointing out how he could exploit openings. Cormier described how Velasquez punished Lesnar after a takedown, leaving a permanent scar under Lesnar’s eye. He argued this matchup would have been one of the safest fights in his career.

    Life after the Octagon

Lesnar has retired from MMA and returned to WWE, while Cormier enjoys life outside fighting. He serves as a color commentator for UFC events and covers collegiate wrestling shows on ESPN, remaining a prominent figure in the sport.
