Saul “Canelo” Alvarez plans only two more fights under promoter Riyah Season, owned by Sheikh Turki Alalshikh. He will fight in 2026 or 2027 after recovering from elbow surgery and completing rehabilitation.

As Canelo’s career winds down, new contenders are emerging to fill his place in the ring and in Mexican fans’ hearts. Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz claims he is ready to take the spotlight.

Cruz said he welcomes the challenge and sees Canelo’s retirement approaching. He aims to become the new face of Mexican boxing globally, though he must maintain strong results and career consistency, qualities Canelo exemplified.

    Pitbull Eyes the Spotlight

Isaac Cruz still has a long way to match Canelo Alvarez’s achievements. However, the Mexico City native remains one of the most media-visible Mexican boxers, attracting global attention from major boxing associations.

Cruz stated, “Being recognized as the next face of Mexican boxing motivates me. I want to earn the torch Canelo leaves behind while keeping fans as the real winners.”

He is preparing to fight Lamont Roach Jr. on December 6 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. Cruz insists on winning to finish the year undefeated after victories over Angel Fierro and Omar Salcido.

“Winning is the only option on December 6,” Cruz said. “Whether by knockout or judges’ decision, we must win. My team focuses on the same goal: victory round by round.”

Pitbull Must Avoid Controversy to Shine

Cruz holds a record of 28 wins, three losses, and one draw. He must maintain a clean image to rise as a Mexican boxing idol.

The planned 2025 rematch against Angel “Tashiro” Fierro was canceled due to Fierro’s health complications while making weight. Cruz recognizes the situation was beyond his control and now aims to prove himself against Lamont Roach Jr.

“We know we face a strong opponent and cannot underestimate him,” Cruz said. “We study all his fights, learn his strengths and weaknesses, and get stronger every day. This preparation gives me confidence to win on December 6.”

Cruz added he feels at home in Texas thanks to many Mexicans living in the United States and hopes to deliver a strong performance for them.
