Roy Jones Jr Favors Barrios in Clash with Ryan Garcia

    A Battle of Styles

Mario Barrios and Ryan Garcia are set to clash at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena in a highly anticipated welterweight showdown. While Garcia boasts a powerful left hook, Barrios relies on relentless pressure and high-paced work over 12 rounds. Despite being the reigning WBC world champion, Barrios has faced criticism after consecutive draws with Abel Ramos and Manny Pacquiao, with some questioning his technical polish at 147lbs.

    Garcia’s Recent Struggles

Garcia enters the fight coming off a disappointing loss to Rolando Romero, where he failed to impress and lost via unanimous decision despite an early knockdown comeback. His earlier victory over Devin Haney was nullified due to a positive test for ostarine, resulting in a one-year ban. These setbacks leave Garcia needing a strong showing to reassert himself at the top level.

    Jones’ Take: Leaning Toward Barrios

Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr believes Barrios has the edge if he can maintain his pressure and withstand Garcia’s signature hook. “I probably lean toward Barrios, but it’s a tough call,” Jones told ESPN. He highlighted the importance of Barrios keeping up a relentless pace to prevent Garcia from settling into the fight. According to Jones, Barrios’ recent experience against Pacquiao could give him the confidence needed to secure victory.
