CM Punk’s short UFC career never matched expectations after his move from WWE to mixed martial arts. Training under Duke Roufus, Punk competed twice in the UFC but lost to Mickey Gall by submission and later failed to beat Mike Jackson. Ironically, the bout between Gall and Jackson ended faster than either fight against Punk. At UFC Fight Night 82, Gall dropped Jackson and submitted him in just 45 seconds. When Gall faced Punk later that year, the fight lasted longer, though it ended the same way. Punk then went the distance against Jackson, with the result later overturned to a no contest. Punk has since said his biggest mistake was starting MMA too late, admitting the sport favors younger athletes despite his full commitment to training.
