Alex Pereira targets blockbuster heavyweight fights for UFC comeback

Alex Pereira already ranks among the UFC’s most accomplished fighters. Now, he seeks a defining clash that could secure his legacy. The Brazilian dominates the light-heavyweight division as a two-time champion and has also held middleweight gold. As his career approaches its final chapters, Pereira plans a bold step up to heavyweight.

If he makes the jump, he has two primary goals. First, a super-fight against legendary two-weight champion Jon Jones. Second, a heavyweight title shot, which currently would mean facing Tom Aspinall.

Pereira shares vision for historic heavyweight leap

Pereira appeared recently on Brazilian TV show Omelete to outline his future plans. The hosts suggested he could exploit opportunities at the top of the heavyweight division. Pereira confirmed he has two major ambitions for 2026. “I spoke about my interest, right? I want to fight at heavyweight, but I don’t know… I mentioned the White House against Jon Jones,” he said.

He added, “I’ve even spoken about a possible fight at heavyweight for a third belt. But it’s not in my control. I’m just waiting, like everyone else.”

Contrasting situations for his potential opponents

Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall currently face very different circumstances. The two were once on track for a monumental title clash but now appear far apart. Aspinall suffers from a severe eye injury after being poked in both eyes by Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 in October. He recently said he cannot train and has not yet considered a return.

Jones, in contrast, has been actively seeking a comeback since announcing his return at the UFC White House event. A super-fight with Pereira could finally bring him back into action.

Pereira’s ambitions now depend on timing, opportunity, and whether either high-profile matchup becomes reality.
