Three Reasons Montel Jackson Could Become UFC Rio’s Breakout Star

As UFC Rio approaches, most eyes are on Charles Oliveira — but Montel Jackson may be the fighter who steals the show. The bantamweight contender faces former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo in a high-stakes matchup that could redefine his career. Here’s why Jackson could emerge as a serious title threat in Brazil.

    1. Jackson Has Quietly Built a Dangerous Record
Montel “Quik” Jackson may not yet be a household name, but his résumé speaks for itself. Riding a six-fight win streak, he holds the most knockdowns in the bantamweight division (11) and once recorded an 18-second knockout. His only setback has been inactivity — one fight per year since 2023 — but his consistency and power make him a dangerous presence at 135 pounds.

    2. A Win Over Figueiredo Would Launch Him Into Contention
Jackson’s matchup with Deiveson Figueiredo is the kind of fight that changes careers. Figueiredo, a former champion ranked six spots above Jackson, returns from injury after a loss to Cory Sandhagen. Many see him as vulnerable, and Jackson as the betting favorite. A victory over such a big name on Brazilian soil would catapult Jackson into the division’s top tier.

    3. The Champion’s Options Are Running Thin
Bantamweight king Merab Dvalishvili has already defeated most of the top contenders and is looking for fresh challenges. If Jackson beats Figueiredo and adds another win soon after, he could quickly become one of the few viable new opponents for the relentless champion.

With power, momentum, and the right opportunity, Montel Jackson could turn UFC Rio into the night he steps out of the shadows — and into title contention.
