    Official Recognition by International Body

The Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) has been granted full membership in the International Boxing Association (IBA), the sport’s global governing body. The decision was made at an IBA board meeting on 6 February and formally communicated to IABF president Rakesh Mishra via a letter from Lausanne, Switzerland, on 9 February.

IBA president Umar Kremlev congratulated the federation, praising its dedication to boxing, transparent governance, and compliance with international standards. “We are thrilled to have your National Federation on board and look forward to the positive contributions and collaboration that will enrich the development of boxing worldwide,” the letter stated.

    Opportunities for Indian Boxers

Full membership allows India to participate in IBA-sanctioned international tournaments and events. Mishra called the recognition a “significant opportunity” for Indian boxing, saying it will give athletes better access to international competitions, training programs, and global exposure.

    Focus on Growth and Olympics

IABF secretary general Rakesh Thakran thanked the IBA board and member nations for their support, noting that the decision aligns with India’s broader goals of providing athletes more Olympic opportunities. He added that the federation plans to strengthen grassroots talent identification and structured training programs to prepare boxers for future Olympic Games, while also addressing challenges currently facing the sport.
