Shakur Stevenson Eyes New Challenges After WBO Super-Lightweight Triumph

    Dominant Victory Elevates Stevenson’s Status

Shakur Stevenson showcased his skill and composure on Saturday night, capturing the WBO super-lightweight world title with a commanding performance over Teofimo Lopez. The 28-year-old American made what many expected to be his toughest fight to date look routine, further cementing his reputation as one of boxing’s elite pound-for-pound talents. With this win, Stevenson becomes the third-youngest four-division world champion in history, trailing only Oscar De La Hoya and Adrien Broner.

Considering Next Moves Across Weight Classes

With the super-lightweight crown now secured, Stevenson is weighing his next career move. Options include returning to lightweight to pursue a unification bout at 135lbs or moving up to welterweight for a high-profile clash with Conor Benn, potentially opening the door to a fifth weight-class title. While these prospects are enticing, Stevenson has not closed the door on remaining at super-lightweight for select matchups.

Possible Showdown with “Mini Mike Tyson”

In a recent interview with Cigar Talk, Stevenson expressed interest in facing Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, Mexico’s WBC Interim champion. Known for his aggressive, all-action style, Cruz has drawn comparisons to Mike Tyson, and Stevenson believes the fight would attract casual fans while still being within his control. Cruz, who defended his title with a draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in December, remains behind Alberto Puello in line for a shot at the WBC world title. Stevenson’s comments signal a willingness to take on exciting, fan-friendly bouts while strategically advancing his career.
