Floyd Mayweather vs Mike Tyson in doubt as Mayweather hints at new opponent

Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson’s long-anticipated exhibition fight now looks uncertain as Mayweather appears to pursue a different bout.

The two boxing legends were set to meet this year in one of the sport’s most bizarre and risky match-ups. Since December, updates from both camps have gone silent. Now, reports suggest a new fight may be taking shape.

Mayweather’s exhibition journey and Tyson’s comeback

After retiring in 2017, Mayweather spent seven years taking on exhibition bouts with MMA fighters, celebrities, and former sparring partners on a global tour. Tyson returned to professional boxing at 57, facing Jake Paul in a record-breaking 2024 fight. Both men have remained active, keeping fans eager for their potential showdown.

Kickboxing legend announces fight against Mayweather

Kickboxing icon Mike Zambidis now claims he will face Mayweather this summer. Fans questioned the feasibility of the Mayweather-Tyson fight after the initial announcement last year, given Tyson turns 60 this summer and the pair’s previous weigh-ins differed by nearly 68 pounds.

Zambidis released a fight poster showing a June 27 date and The OAKA Arena in Athens, Greece, as the venue. The event is branded ‘Battle of the Legends,’ with Zambidis posting on Instagram that “history is about to be made.” The poster also links Mayweather Promotions with Front Row Fight Series, the team behind his bouts with John Gotti III and Aaron Chalmers.

So far, Mayweather, his promotions team, and Front Row Fight Series have not confirmed the announcement.

Mayweather-Tyson fight was scheduled for next month

In December, Tyson told a Dublin audience that his fight with Mayweather would happen in Africa in March. He promised fans an incredible spectacle that would break records and rank among the sport’s biggest events.

The fight was first announced by CSI Sports in September, hinting at a 2026 date and worldwide broadcast plans. While Mayweather could theoretically take part in two fights within months, the scenario appears unlikely.

Back in 2022, Mayweather did take on two fights in just 50 days, knocking out MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura in Japan and stopping YouTuber Deji seven weeks later in Dubai. However, a schedule combining Tyson and Zambidis seems challenging.
