Fans and fighters question referees after unpenalized low blows

Mike Malott claimed a career-defining win, defeating Kevin Holland in front of a Canadian crowd at UFC Vancouver. The co-main event quickly became one of the most unusual fights of recent UFC history.

The fight started slowly, but Holland caught a kick from Malott and landed a right hand that dropped him. Malott recovered, grabbed a leg, and executed a sweep to secure top position. He applied intense grappling pressure before both fighters returned to their feet. Malott then delivered two accidental low blows, including a knee to Holland’s groin, clearly hurting him. Holland continued the full five minutes, showing resilience despite the pain. Fans and fighters criticized the decision not to deduct a point, especially after Drew Dober was penalized earlier in the evening.

Malott gains control in second round

Following a brief pause to check Holland’s condition, Malott found success with precise technical striking. He combined punches with a knee to the body, which appeared to weaken Holland further. Holland seemed slower than usual in his attacks, allowing Malott to dictate the pace. In the third round, a slam takedown and an arm-triangle attempt secured Malott’s decision victory.

    Winning streak extends for Malott

Malott now has three consecutive victories and a 6-1 UFC record since his 2021 appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series. He entered UFC Vancouver after a knockout win over Charles Radtke at UFC 315.

    Holland faces tough stretch

Holland has now lost four of his last six fights. He came in after a defeat against Daniel Rodriguez at UFC 318, adding pressure on his performance against Malott. Fans continue debating the fairness of the bout, focusing on the unpenalized low blows.
