Joe Pyfer Calls Out Paulo Costa: A Dream Fight

Pyfer Eyes His Next Big Step

UFC middleweight contender Joe Pyfer has made it clear he dreams of a showdown with Paulo Costa. The American sees this fight as the next logical move in his career.

Over the past few years, Pyfer has become a serious name in the middleweight division. Despite a few setbacks, he remains one of the heaviest punchers at 185 pounds. On Saturday night, he also proved his ground game by submitting Abus Magomedov at UFC 320.

The first round didn’t go his way, but that didn’t matter. Pyfer got the win—and that’s what counts. Now he wants more. The middleweight division stands wide open after Khamzat Chimaev captured the belt from Dricus du Plessis.

    Pyfer Reveals His Dream Opponents

Speaking with interviewer Ariel Helwani, Pyfer shared his thoughts on what’s next.

“Paulo Costa would be a dream fight,” he said. “But he’s so inactive. He’s fought once or twice in two years. I’d rather face hungry, active guys like Marvin Vettori, Jared Cannonier, or Roman Dolidze. One more finish in the top 15, and I can fight anyone in the top 10.”

The Road to the Top Remains Long

Pyfer still has a long climb before becoming a true title threat. Yet right now, few middleweight prospects look better. That should give him confidence—and fans something exciting to look forward to.
